Project Information

I have been busy making boxes for summer craft shows. I recently finished 20 that are all different in type of wood or style. I also made over 20 cutting boards in a week. Haven't taken the time to post anything. I even sold some without taking pictures. This box is Padauk and Curly Maple. Watco Danish oil for the finish- it is so easy and feels really nice. The front edge of the top extends over the front side a bit as a lift. I made a few with this style of legs and tray. One is Lacewood and Purple heart. It has been a good summer for shows. One more before I go back to teaching in 2 weeks. Then one on labor Day weekend in South Lake Tahoe. And the Plymouth Bluegrass Festival in Mid September. My wife plays Mandolin and this is a good way to support her interests. With a show every 2 weeks, this has begun to seem like a job!! But I still like seeing the end result and the feedback at shows has been great. Found some good wood sources too!!

Nice boxes Robert. They should sell easily at the shows. I like the padauk. It is a nice wood to work with but makes alot of orange dust. The lacewood box has a beautifil grain very similar to leopardwood.

Beautiful boxes!

Ditto what Greg said about the dust. My wife is still ticked about my last padauk project! :)

It took you 16yrs to get to the second grade? Wow, I thought my education process was slow…
Nice Boxes. I agree about the padauk dust. Gotta pay for that extra beauty

I had a big issue with the dust when I used to turn Padauk. I always sand it last when i am doing a few boxes. I clean up often and I keep it away from the Maple and other light wood!! I do like the colors i can get.
Gary, I get along quite well with 7 year olds. What does that say about me?? I have been in 2nd grade for a few years now. No social promotion for me.

beautifull. I have made a couple of boxes and given them away for (sadly) freinds memorials,( a place for attenders to drop there cards and notes). I have thought about doing some more to sell…how much do you ask for them…
