Orchid Tables

Welcome to Lumberjocks, Derek! That's really an interesting table for such a specific purpose, wow. You have way more patience than I do to make 12 prototypes. It would be interesting to see them all in a 3rd photo!

Nice work! I really can't imagine how you wrap the aluminum around the skirt so nicely. It's a really nice touch.

I hope the orchid isn't purple!

It was a run of 12 after 6 or 7 prototypes, so lots of gift giving and wedding presents before I dialed it in completely. The run of 12 was a lesson in production as much as anything, what I learned was not to do production runs. Up to three of something can be bearable, but 12 was too many, it took all winter.
Lots of patient folding and refolding and scoring of the aluminum to make it work out cleanly.
The orchid was white so it had good contrast with the purple heart.

I understand what you mean about production runs. As an amateur, people often look at something I've made and tell me "Wow, you could sell a ton of those at a craft show." But the thought of making a bunch of the same thing just sounds to me like taking something fun and turning it into drudgery.

Tom, the tables are 9×9 tops sitting about 33" tall

Dusty, the tops are from 8/4 material, so they end up at 1.75" or so.

Nice use of materials. Good to see some Idaho woodwork to.
