Project Information

Probably the most complicated project I have tackled. An open staircase made of Hickory. The treads are three-quarter Inch with one and a quarter inch trim and returns. The posts I made By attaching 4×4 Douglasfir to the stair stringers and through the subfloor to where I could get a solid attachment. And then I made panels for each side of the posts.

That is amazing. You've caused my poor stairwell serious self esteem issues. The square mortise plugs are a wonderful added detail, and I love the rich varying color and grain in the Hickory.

Very nice looking stair case. I've built a couple and I understand what you mean about being complicated. In fact, your newel posts looks very similar to the ones I built for my stairs.

Yours turned out great!!!

The finish I used was an oil based satin finish by lenmar. 3 coats brushed on.
