DW, thanks. The open segment was the first for me, a bit scary with all of those holes to catch on.

Thanks WoodenDreams. The two play well together. It was going to be a fruit bowl, however I did not take in account for the thicker wood, I drew up the plan for 3/4" stock and used 7/8" stock, so that threw off the upper rings I was going to use. Lesson learned.

Really very interesting with the open segments Looks terrific.
I haven’t done any wood turning, but it does look like the open segments would be scary.

Thanks Dan. Once you start turning you will get addicted. As for open segments, slow an easy.

That's nice Eric - I always envy those that have the ba err, guts to do open segmented turning. I have yet to do turning other than a filler plug for my bowls and lamps

For a first open segment turning you went all in with those big gaps. Nice result. Consider no foot - just let the gentle curve of the side flow to bottom. I'm curious how did you postion the segements? Use a Drisskell/Lohman style jig?

Thanks Dick, I'm learning.

Thanks Socrbent. I feel gaps are gaps either way one looks at it, it is a bit nerve racking. As for a jig, I need to build one before I do another open segment. I just had a piece of paper with concentric circles divided out for 24 blocks per level.

Next time I need to plan for a mortise instead of the tenon. Or cut out the tenon and create feet.
