My son considers himself to be quite the outdoorsman and has been wanting me to buy him a fishing line spool tender for sometime. I guess that for those who use bait caster reels, you need a small amount of tension on the line as you put new line on the reel. The tender consists of a 3/8ths dowel with 2 six inch plywood circles and a collet with a small set screw that was in a HF dowel kit. A small spring holds tension against the plywood circle and the tension can be increased or decreased by moving the collet in or out on the dowel. The base is oversized to keep it stable during the line replacement. The verticle upright is mounted to the base with glue and screws. This is the deluxe model, i drilled a small hole to hold the hex wrench needed to adjust the collet when not being used. It was all made with odds and ends laying around the shop so it only cost me my time….now I think I will go back and use that left over purple paint to spruce it up for him…lol.
