Project Information

These are some of my first attempts at woodworking. I know I can't touch most of the people here, but I am loving wood working so far. These benches / coffee table (I didn't make the kitchen table) are just 2X4 pine construction, thats why I painted them. I just painted, distressed and sealed with acrylic. There are no screws or fasteners, just biscuits and dowels and glue. All of the work was done sitting on the floor of my garage. The wife wanted old farmhouse looking furniture so this was the result. She likes them, I guess thats what matters most.

Any tips and feedback greatley appreciated.

They are great. I just finished something similar for the garden (yes, in november… Go figure). They are great value for the money as well as great practice.

Nive work. I like the 5 degree angles on the legs. I might suggest that if you are going toleave any of these outside, you will want to use exterior glue. I am a big fan of West Marine Epoxy or similar.

Well done. Woodworking is the enjoyment of working with wood. A project does not have to be complex to enjoy it. Again nicely done. Thanks for posting.

Those look great, and they met the objectives of design, function and durability. In my opinion, if you hit those, it doesn't matter if they started as 2x's!

Nice job on all…....keep the little woman happy! I made some similar 2×4 window benches for plants to sun themselves on.

There is no time like the present to get out now. I feel like I was born with a board in my hand and then it went across the rump area in my younger days and th into my heart.
I started banging nails on the farm since I could walk and went into woodworking watching the New Yankee Workshop and got all tied up in power tools. Over the years I have a passion for doing things by hand. I wish it would have been the other way around. Woodworking has keep the devil out of my hands and mind for many years and I hope that it will be fulfilling and a part of yours. If it is power or hand tools good luck. Keep up the good work and a remember, "When mommy is happy everyody is happy"

Happy wife - happy life! I do the same type of woodworking. Like you, I do not think my things begin to compare with the exquisite work I see on this site. But, my wife really likes the stuff I make and she keeps asking me to build more so that is what I do. Something between country and primitive. Great job on your part!
