Observatory
the sky is the limit!

Well not really the sky, as the regulations at the allotment house areas building code says 3,5 meter max height, smiles.
But that can't stop me from dreaming and at the end of the day, it was all about being able to see the beautiful fields and forest that surrounds our allotment area, getting to see the horizon at day time from the garden, the stars and moon at night and finally adding some magic and MaFe to the house, as well as having fun doing it.

This post is from the blog: https://www.lumberjocks.com/mafe/blog/132912

Pictures:
1. The observatory.
2. Making a garden workshop, while building it.
3. Dreaming me up there…
4. A hole in the head… roof!.
5. Inside.
6. The allotment house.

Video:

Hope it can be to some inspiration, or at least, making some remember the sky is the limit.

Best thoughts,

MaFe

Neat project mads... but I gatta ask.

Can you launch a rocket from it… If you can, you'd better upgrade the capsule and your PPE,

with C19 and not even a mask… you'll scare the bjesus out of the Martians,

if they're not double vaccinated!

It's a wonderful addition to you home. Wish I was there to enjoy the view and have a brew. Great job fitting it to match the rest of the place.
Careful you may end up being part of the neighborhood watch program.

I was reading your blog and I didn't know the roof flipped up Mafe. You really got into that build opening the roof like you did.

Is it water tight? It would bring out the adventurous kid in all of us.

Hi all,

Lew, That's just what I wished for, wanted it to be interesting, but look as if it had always been there, so I'm really happy you see this, thank you.

Don W, Big smile Don, somehow that would have been appropriate, love that image thanks.

Brit, Wauuu yes that will be fantastic, now I look forward to a real storm and lightning. Hoping I will not be what gets hit. :-O

LittleBlackDuck, Big laugh, yes it's a real beginner capsule. :-D

I might even look like local up there…

pottz, You are the [email protected]#kin kindest man of all. I'm not sure I know how to stop… being me, :) and so happy when it can inspire. As a early retired, to be able to share and get response, is a special gift. I used to work as an Architect, so this little project, was somehow near to my heart, for many reasons. You are so welcome here.

Dave Polaschek, Smiles, it's only late fall here now, so I'm closing the house for the winter now, then there will be more workshop time and hopefully LJ time. Thank you, also feel the house got a wee gift.

Jim Jakosh, Smiles Jim, yes a nest need a mate, but at the moment I enjoy being a free bird, but sometimes going to sleep alone, is not a joyful feeling, the extra pillow, can't fill the heart, just the empty space. Knowing me, it will not last forever, I'm not good at living with the eyes closed. ;-) Cheers my friend.

swirt, Also a look out, a cave and a roof light also. This is like Christmas evening. Thanks Swirt.

Andre, I actually only had two times up there with the telescope, since it need to be a clear night. The clearest was the coldest and I had to stop after an hour, because I were freezing, laughs. Can't wait to have grans, to be able to share moments like that, how wonderful it must be. Thank you.

therealSteveN, It sure feels like a wonderful win and wind. Smiles thanks.

Ivan, Laugh, that was a new one. Thanks Ivan.

doubleDD, Laugh, it will be the watch tower then, I will have to have a whistle then, laughs. It would be wonderful, to have you guys passing for beers and hanging out in the observatory, hope I will not fall down drunk at the end, smiles. Thanks for the kind words.

James E McIntyre, I felt opening the roof up, would be that last bit, that would make it all magic and I still feel it when I open it up at night. Yes it's waterproof, I added rubber thingy, so even in the big thunderstorms, there were no leaks. There are a few places I think I need to caulk before snow will come, as snow fly in at every crack. Happy it gives you that adventures feeling. Thanks.

bonobo, Big smile, then I like your dream.

woodshaver Tony C, I thought I had to make a wee video, to really explain the story, happy you took the tour. I would be happy to invite you up for a chat a and view. Thanks Tony, big smile here.

mtnwild, I have no chance in stop dreaming found out it's kind of when I enjoy life the most - dreaming up projects and making them come to life. I love my little garden, managed to keep almost everything and yet make a order and also a feeling of space and freedom. When I got it, it were a wilderness, but full of plant treasures, so it was like a treasure hunt and staying patient, waiting to see the seasons and what came to life, before doing things. Thank you.

Thank you all, these comments really touched me.

Best thoughts,
Mads

You amaze me. I did something similar in my garage. There was not enough light in there so I put a 3 ft. x 5 ft. skylight in the south facing roof. It was a crank open plastic double skin type. My brother gifted it to me. The crank gears broke , so now I have to open it by hand. It cools the garage too. Now I have plenty of light and air flow too. Easy to do. Just some 2 inch x 10 inch framing, new shingle and some roof tar and it was done.

Smiles thanks woodchucker, then you just have to stick your head up at night with a telescope.
Yes it works really well for cooling the house and workshop also, it creates draft, due to the rise of heat, I just open a window on the north side of the house (cold).
