Project Information

We wanted a table that could seat 6 in a smaller space. Tables in the market were too big for our space, so I decided to build my own. The glass is from Ikea. It is about 66" long and 37" wide.
The top and rails rails are red oak. The legs are white ash, which I did a 2 sided taper. These have been stained to dark mahogany using gel stain.
Final finish is lacquer (about 6 coats).
Ignore the chairs :).

Beautiful!!

My favorite finish look is lacquer on oak. You can still see and feel the beautiful grain and yet it is so smooth!

Beautiful, I'm thinking of making something similar. I got to pieces of glass about that size that were patio door glass. They're about 3/4 of an inch thich and saftey glass so they would work for this use. Looks great, the oak color.

It should work great Mike.
Glass that thick will be quite heavy too. A style I saw in a store was putting the glass inlaid on a full top (not like my table, where the glass is mostly see through to make my small dining room look spacious).
And below the glass, they put strips of leather sewed on to give a cross hatch pattern. The leather was very dark, and sewn with white thread. The table was mocha in color.
