Project Information

Being relatively new to the woodworking world, I had a lot to learn on this project. I fought the good fight against chip-out, battled preparing rough lumber, learned how not to use a biscuit joiner and discovered how far this box could fly when the circuit breaker tripped and my table saw kicked back.

In any case, here it is. This is a box that I originally built as a gun box for my sister who just graduated from Police Academy. Realizing that a wooden box with hinges that could easily be ripped off is not the best thing to store a gun in, I opted to change it to a memento box for her academy experience. The case is cherry and the lid is floating in a black walnut frame. I finished it (last night) with three coats of tung oil.

I really enjoyed building this for my sister and am excited to enter it here as my first ever contest entry. I'll be giving to her on Saturday when my family comes up to celebrate my birthday.

Enjoy!

Nice box (and signature line!) It's amazing how far the tablesaw can throw, isn't it?

Very cool. My father is a career law enforcement officer, and I know there are times he wish he had something like this! Besides, it's a kick-butt looking box :D
