This bed was a project in one of Norm Abram's books. Being the ever-precise woodworker, I built it tight to my previous box spring. When I upgraded to a TempurPedic, the new box spring fits with a suction fit…oops! The method Norm used to cut these long tapers was ingenious as he used a long sled that rode over the fence of the table saw. 3/8" bed bolts and 8/4 side rails with tenons make this a very sturdy bed indeed.
I originally built the bed with a canopy frame and my late wife sewed a custom canopy to match a quilt she had made. We eventually wanted a more open style and I turned a set of finials. That is the style I like best.
The last photo is from 1994. My kids have grown a lot since then…
