Got to build a new shop in the fall of 2013 by promising to clear out of the garage (28' x 40') so my wife could park her car in it. The new building is 50' x 100', with the shop occupying 50' x 65', 12' eaves, metal with extra insulation. Heated with a wood stove, has 200 amp single phase electrical service, 10 HP rotary phase convertor, Oneida 5 Hp dust system, no windows (to deter thieves in neighborhood). 14' x 14' garage door. Located in the mountains of NE New Mexico. Unintended consequence of the bigger shop is lots of walking between tools, but I'm not complaining. During the years I operated a cabinet shop, in the 70's, I could never have afforded a space this big.

Great looking shop. I have always wished I had a shop that was too big. I hope you enjoy yours.

Thanks. It was a long time coming - had a lot of years to think about it before doing it. I am glad to discover Lumberjocks. Lots of interesting topics and thoughtful comments. This site is one that makes the internet really worthwhile. The pictures posted are from mid 2014 - new dust system and some more equipment are in there now. Wood is from my cousin's farm in NE Kansas - helped with harvest, brought home some walnut and hackberry slabs.

Most years it lives from April to October at Heron Lake at the NM Sailing Club marina - 3 hours away. We do have a few lakes here, but Heron has been too low for the last 3 years to put in a boat the size of Cheers. Hoping El Nino fixes that this winter. Been a good time to redo the teak.

Was to NM once to do some trout fishing on the Jicarilla Apache Indian Reservation. At the time, I imagined that Mars had a similar landscape to NM :) Didn't see much water other than the small lakes we fished on the reservation, so that's why I asked :) Nice boat, by the way. Even nicer place it's being housed in. Props on your new shop!

Great looking shop. You can never have too much space. I wish I would have built a larger shop like yours.

Must be hard having to work around that darn rowboat all the time! I'm so old I would get worn out walking from one machine to the other! Really nice shop!!!!!

Thank you all for the nice remarks.
When I proposed building this shop, my wife told me that "its true, there's no fool like an old fool" and at my age (64) " how long did I expect to be able to work in it?" I was kind of bummed, but told her the next morning "I might be old, but I'm not dead yet!"

Well Steve, I'll be 70 in a couple months and the way I see it is this: I woke up this morning. It's a GREAT day!!

I am working from a 3rd car garage I added on to my home in Feb 2015. Before I got all the tools into it, it was too small. I envy your place. Use it in good health. I am in southern NM 40 miles or so from El Paso, TX.
