Showcase cover image for Nightstands

Project Information

My daughters sister in law is starting over after a divorce and she wanted to help her out with some decor, etc to start over. She asked me if I could build a couple of pieces for her on short notice with no budget. Sounded fun and I got to help a really sweet young lady. I looked in my stack of remnants, cutoffs, etc and figured I could make a couple of nightstands pretty simply with what I had on hand. I used some 2 x material to make the legs, some 3/4 material for the rails and drawer guides/supports/and top, and some 1/2 inch BB ply cutoffs to make the drawers. I designed on the fly and enjoyed the process. With the legs on the outside of the frame I could use the rails on the inside to use as drawer guides (top and bottom) and eliminated to cost of purchasing them and the time to build any. Worked great. The only cost was the pulls that my daughter wanted to use and the rest I had on hand. Knocked them out in a week after work. Pretty happy with the results and the young lady was in tears when we showed up to decorate her place.

Good outcome using odds and ends wood, and by the seat of your pants. Your charity will make your heart glad, and I don't know, but I think somebody keeps tabs on those acts.
