Project Information

Hi, I'm just setting up shop. This is my first woodworking project. I wanted a beginning project that would fit the few tools I have acquired so far.

I have tried to design the hanger with curves to reflect it's function. The base also holds a bowl for other types of fruit. I guess I was somewhat successful, as my wife walked into the shop and said, "Is that a banana hanger?"

I learned a lot on this first project. My hand sawing skills with a coping saw are still pretty poor. So, I wound up getting a jigsaw, which made the job a lot easier. I learned how to think through the design before I started, to make sure the base would be the right size and shape to keep the stand from tipping over. Most of all, I had a lot of fun doing this! I think this is going to be a great hobby/journey for me.

I welcome all feedback and constructive criticisms.

Thanks for taking the time to look!

Really nice project. Don't forget to sign it. My mentor insists on a date/signature on all work.

Thanks for the feedback and encouragement everyone!

Stormy, how do you usually sign your projects? I left the underside of the base unfinished, so it might be possible to sign it.

I have a branding iron to mark the underside of my projects and I inset a penny with the date of the year it was made. If you like a jig saw, you will flat-out love a band saw, That's my fun tool. I use it more than any other machine in my shop. Find a good used table top model to start and move up from there.

Nice work and enjoy the woodworking. It gets addictive and I have been at it for over 60 years but it never gets old. At 76 y/o I am in my shop 7 days a week for 4-6 hours every day. It keep me alert and happy. It is my escape and therapy.
