Project Information
And here we go again. I was tired of my undercabinet Storage…see in my projects…and went back to the traditional Shopsmith Tool Shelf. I had made one before for my first Shopsmith and planned my tool arrangement not like the company had set up theirs. I use a 2×2 bolted to the holes in the leg set. Then this time a 9 inch by 54 in poplar board. actually I had a 48 and pieced another 10 inch to make the almost 55 inch you can have. I have a notch in the back so it can go just inside the legs an inch. And its 5 screws hold to the 2x. Now I have found that the headstock cannot go full left about the last 20 inches so that's where I set my lathe parts, other wise they are tall and in the way if you do other work on the right. I use the disk sander and a 10 blade slot back to back, easy with a router bit or circular saw or jig saw, just forwards of the table pipes. I have a notched block for the miter gauge to slide under, held with screws. My drill chuck is on the right end in case I go to drill press mode and forgot it I just have to reach down and its there, not at the other end. The saw guard and fence are on the right, slot for the splitter and square hole for the clamp end of the fence, a small screw under the fence helps keep it from sliding. A nice stain and poly made it better. Other holes for the T wrench and some push sticks as needed. This time I a trying an S hook at the left end of the Shopsmith where I can hang the blade guard. Since sawdust does fall anywhere I am thinking of a wire shelf on the back side for some other parts to keep them reachable. All in all I had most of the wood and screws for this right on hand. I have a holder for the lathe chisels hanging on the wall, with a magnet strip also,.
