Project Information
To fulfil my needs around the house, I designed and built these useful sawhorses. Made from 3/4" X 12" X 96" MDF boards (could be plywood) that I had on hand, I designed them to be strong yet simple. Since my workshop is in the basement, they had to be efficient and storable. The measurements are 30'' high, 12'' deep and 30'' long.
I used dado and groove joinery only (3/4" wide by 3/16" deep) and all joints are glued and screwed with #6 2" drywall screws.
The view from under the lower shelf shows the short groove (3/4" X 3/16") that accepts the end of the lower shelf central support, and the 3/4" nylon nail-glides. The view from under the upper shelf shows the stopped groove (3/4" X 3/16") at the end of the upper shelf central support.
Since the top is flat, they easily support tools, wood and accessories and all clamping is easy and secure. Clamped together, they provide a 24" X 30" temporary benchtop tool station. And best, they can be stacked for storage and can also be used as temporary shelving.
