Enlarging finger holes one at a time with a tuner. You start off with finger holes smaller and gradually increase the size as you tune each finger hole starting from the bottom. The length and bore size of the flute also determines what key it is. Longer the flute the lower the note. Getting the flute to make any sound at all is daunting sometimes but the more you make the better you become..;. I sell these on craigslist and at various venues.

Beautiful flute. Does the bird sit on a flat area?
I made one once and clipped the tuner to the front and that blockage threw off the tune so I had to retune it with the tuner sitting in front on the table. I can't play mine, but I heard two Indians play it at the Case Grande Ruins flute festival and it sounded great...............Cheers, Jim

Yes It does have a flat area where the bird sits. Most I make have a routed slot that the bird sits in so it will not move as most people don't know how to position the bird if if sides around. All my flutes seem to have a voice of their own and no two have the same sound even if made the same that is what I love about making them.
