Project Information

Hello Fellow Lumberjocks!
This is a wolf birdhouse from a Windfield print. The 'house' portion is made from MDO plywood and the figured pieces are pine. The eyes are available from the Winfield Collection. I have used Winfield eyes on many projects and love the 'life-like' quality they give to any project. The box is sized for a mid-sized bird but it has a 1 1/8" hole for a smaller bird like chickadees or wrens. The original print calls for it to be made from cedar then sealed with clear coat. I wanted to see what it looked like painted though and am happy with the results. It was so much fun to build that I may make one from cedar yet.
As you can see from the pictures the most difficult portion of the build was the muzzle area. It is 5 layers of wood piled on top of each other to create that menacing 3D effect and is almost 3" thick. It took a lot of careful planning, cutting and sanding but in the end it turned out pretty good. I particularly enjoyed this project because not only did it test my woodworking skills but my painting skills as well.
Hope you like it and thanks for looking!

I like it! Your painting is very good.
What kind of Paint?
I am concerned that your fine work might succumb to the sun and weather.

Hello Sam,

you dont really expect any bird to go any where your construction

Its scary enough in 2D Form on the PC let alone a 3D image.

Nice work in the construction and finish!!

That is really cool. I agree with mcoyfrog and a1Jim…. but I also wonder what kind of place you have where smurfs wander freely in the background…?
