Project Information

This clamping set was my contribution to the 2017 winter tool swap. This was the first swap that I have participated in, and it was an awesome experience!

The picture frame clamps are made of walnut, with brass fixtures. The main staff of the bar clamps are made of curly maple, while the blocks are made of walnut laminated with curly maple.

These clamps were sent to Mosquito, and in return I received this beautiful set of incanal gouges from bobasaurus.

Outstanding work sherm54 and a great addition to Mos' shop. Mos will

put them to good work no doubt about it.

These are awesome Sherm. I want to make some. These wooden clamps look better than others I've seen. More heavy duty. i like them a lot.

On the picture frame clamp, I don't make many picture frames but love the idea of two sets of these for small boxes with some clamps in the middle after the corners are clamped. I definitely plane to make something like this for sure. Original swap idea. Very well done sir.

Those are great, sherm! I don't do a lot of miter joints, but am going to favorite this for if I need to in the future. The picture frame clamps look to be a huge time and alignment saver.

I actually started out trying to make a set of bar clamps similar to this for the swap but ran into some issues that caused me to have to change my idea. Your design looks great and they turned out awesome.

haha… my original thought was to make them more like a traditional f-style clamp, with the handle parallel to the bar. About 1/2 way through I realized that was not going to work, and had to redesign them. I have some ideas where I think I could make it work, but didn't have the time during the swap to test out my theory, so it will have to go back on my list of 'things to try'.

Nice and effective. In addition, they are also quite handsomely done.
