A good friend of mine rescued a piece of what I have called quilted mahogany from being hurled on to a bonfire. At only 4" x 2" and only around 20" long, the fantastic grain pattern appeared only along the 2" edge. In order to get full benefit, I sawed it into about 3/8" strips and, eventually, the top of this instrument was the result.
The rest of the body is less striking mahogany that came from a bank that was being re-fitted. The body is semi-solid - having cavities routed and then the top skin glued on.
The pickup nearest the bridge is a modern replica of one of the earliest electric guitar pickups made by Rickenbacker in, I believe, 1931
