My shop workbench and cabinets

nice looking cabs. it looks like you thought about it a lot so things work together that is good.

this is a very clean unit and something that i have to really consider as like you i have a single garage as my workshop i like this very much and if you dont mind i will use some of your ideas does the work bench fold down to give maximium room ….......

Thanks! I got the plans from The Family Hanyman magazine a year or two ago and modified them slightly to suit me. I'll try to find the original and let you know which issue. It's probably on their web site too.

I've actually been drawing out something like it, but haven't put up yet…

I built storage cabinets up top, but nothing more yet… still working on it…

I have a few questions - if you don't mind - (well even if you do mind, I still have the questions - just may not get the answers, hehe)

1) do you use the bench or the little stations on wheels as the outfeed tables for the saw/mitre?
2) is the bench on hinges to put down when you need added space? I put my over cabinets at 6'4 (I'm just under 6'2, so I can walk under them with no problems if it was down.)
3) are you using lockable wheels? do they stay sturdy enough?
4) what did you make the top out of? I've been thinking about using solid core doors from home depot - 80×32 I think…
5) what would you change if you had to do it again?

Sorry for asking so many questions… but it's so similar to what I'm trying to do that I'm all pumped up!!!

Nice work! I'm in the process of putting my garage together with workbench and cabinets. I saw the bench which gave you inspiration in the background of one of the Family Handyman storage compilations, but can't find it on the website to save my life! I think we all can agree their website is VERY cumbersome and hard to navigate. I saw in an older comment you were going to look for the issue which had the original plans, did you find it by chance?

In the Family Handyman article, you build a 2×4 frame for the table top. The 2×4 frame is lag bolted to the wall then supported underneath by the triangle supports.

I'm going to be putting something like this together soon also. Chuck did a great job!
