Project Information

FIRST - I like to thank Earl for running another GR8 swap
SECOND - Grant for taking the lead on ordering the shanks from Grace tools
THIRD - our favorite caped jock Kenny for advice
Bill Berklich was my swap partner in this spring swap so I made a set of screwdrivers of mahogany and maple I also made a box out of cherry and walnut as bonus for the set I was kicking the idea around the block for 3 weeks to go with furruels or not I guess you see the not won out I'm not sure how they will hold up in the real life world so Bill will have to let me know and finally to draw eyes away from my very bad finish job a plaque with his name

The walnut box top is stunning. Cherry and walnut are my favorite wood species so you had me with the box. Then to make it even better you made maple and mahogany handles for half of the set and mahogany and maple for the other 3. I'd say Bill is a lucky guy!!!

That walnut really is something to see first hand. I also really like the three edge banding. It guides you eye directly to the front of the chest (box just doesn't seem like the right word for this little gem). Thanks again I started using the drivers almost immediately to salvage some brass hinges.

Great job GR8. You seem to love your laminations!

Are they straight, philips, mixed breed, imperial or metric, left or right handed (what's Bill)?

Not trying to deflect from the topic, but that box could deserve a spot on it's own…

Couple of questions…
  • Did you buy a laser for the project or did you outsource the plaque? If outsourced, to maintain your secret, could you please PM me about what it cost (or what it would have if done by a mate)? Would appreciate a ball park figure to make guestimate some of my similar laser work in wood… if only for my costings.

Really GR8 drivers Tony, and the box is beautiful!
I really ought to get some Grace drivers and try to hack out some handles for them to give to some friends. Maybe ex-friends when they see what crappy work I did on them ;-)
Interested to hear which method works out best, the ferrule or no ferrule route.

I think the ferrule is just for pretty I'm not sure it adds any strength the driver itself :<)))))
