I've been wanting to make a foiled lure for some time now. I'd never made one. Foiling is what it says. Putting foil, in this case household tin foil, on the sides of a lure to embed scale markings into it. It went pretty good for my first one. As usual, I make everything but the hooks. BTW, it's made of cedar. I had a deck board lying around.

Same here. But, interestingly, Ice has just formed here in So. Maine. It's getting later and later each year. And it goes out sooner too. Not many ice fishermen here on the lake the past few years. It used to be a small city out there. Wonder where this is going?!
Thank you both… The music is stock music on youtube. If you use something published they remove it…. But, they've got a ton of stuff to use. Mostly useless stuff for me. i.e. This lure video wouldn't go well with thumping hip hop or techno music. Lots of that there.

Yes, you can use metallic paints but they all seem to dull when you put the clear coat on. Foil will stay reflective and that is often the goal. You'll see foils that will be left unpainted in areas (usually the bottom half of the lure) and sometimes they'll use transparent paints over it which will give the lure a reflective paint look. Then sometimes they use the foil for relief. You can put scale texture that is dimensional and not just painted on like when we use netting as a design for scales. And, the forming of the foil around the head area, gills, mouth, etc give the lure a more natural look that just painting it on or leaving the roughness that carving does. Other than that, it's very interesting but I'm not sure it's that much better considering the extra effort really.

No, I purposely put the shiny side out. In fact I had to cut one foil again as they are mirror each other. I might have not filmed the new cut as I already had one and it just took a minute to do.
