Project Information

This 270 rifle features the gun owners dream buck, all though I know he has come close. I know because this is my brothers rifle. He wanted a euro mounted Mule deer skull. I went with a fish scale for the grips. This gun had factory checkering already so I sanded it down and kept the fish scaling inside the original checkering imprint. Both the fish scale and basket weave provide an excellent grip and the look is awesome if done properly. I tried some wood bleach on the skull to lighten it a bit. Unfortunately even the natural stain, or pre stain was still enough to darken it a bit. Overall this turned out quite nice. It is one of the simpler designs and I felt that it worked well with a skull mount, pretty bare bones and to the point! I know this one will probably be used in the field again.

Fantastic! the design is super. Just enough, not over kill, showoff, which you could do and it would still be beautiful, I'm sure. The print on the grip, is the bomb. Great touch. You will have a bright future doing this. Wait'll they get a load of you. Congratulations to you and your lucky brother.

I bet if I look far and wide for all the other engravers out there I am not the first to do this, but I kind of consider it a trademark of my work to put the animal print there on the bottom whenever possible. Not all stocks give that option. But it is a perfect spot to dress up. To be honest most people look right at it and dont even notice anything until it is pointed out to them. We just aren't used to seeing anything down there I guess.

Now all you need is one of these to go with it Corwin Knives a perfect match.
You could probably make your own but they do a good job for the price. I have one

Thats funny you mention the Corwin knives, a buddy of mine told me about them in cheaper than dirt. I have done a couple of knives for people and he thought a gun stock knife would be fun. Some time I will have to do it.
