Project Information

My wife is into fabric arts (sewing, quilting, knitting, etc.) and one of the groups she belongs to is making something called 'Mug Rugs'.

I was asked to make a frame the completed mug rugs could be mounted in and sit on a shelf for display.

Frame is 12-inches wide and 9-1/2-inches tall. I made a template from 1/4-inch masonite so I could duplicate the oval shape of the mug rugs … I suspect I will be asked to make some more of these!

I like the frame and I even like the 40's pickup too.

I like the way that your frame "presents" the Mug Rug, without distracting the viewer's attention from the Mug Rug.
Nice.

Super COOL frame and oval outline…

How did you cut the raised bead around the edge of the oval?
... did you hog-out everything around the oval leaving the outline?

Really like the way it turned out…

Thank you.

I rough cut the inside of the oval on the scroll saw, attached the masonite template with double-face tape and used a pattern cutting bit to smooth the inside of the oval. Switched to an Ogee Fille bit to cut the profile.
