Project Information

My daughter gave me a wonderful selection of pen blank timbers and inserts - next step was for me to turn them into pens. And today, with the cooler weather and evening rain, it was a perfect time to relax in the workshop and turn a few pens.

As near as I can identify them, the fan photo from left to right shows pens from jarrah, mahogany, rosewood, purpleheart, and two laminates of multicoloured woods.

All are finished with three grades of sandpaper: 320; 600; 1500 grit. Then two coats of cyanoacrylate (superglue) - for weather proofing and high gloss.

I had fun - I hope you did too :)

Sounds like the weather here in Kentucky on Christmas day and night. Nice work, I've never used CA glue as a finish. After you apply it and let it dry do you sand and buff like any acrylic material.

Thanks Dave - I just buff it then apply a couple of coats of car polish and buff to a high shine - like any acrylic material.

The rain here is definitely worth talking about - we've been in drought and reduced rainfall for the past 8 years so it's something to celebrate when it happens here :)

Cheers
Jerry
