Project Information

These are more egg cups that will be gifts to friends. These have the yoke catcher ring on them.
The middle one is osage orange but the other two I think are beech. They came from a block of wood I had at the campground that I had just spit for fire wood the day before. When I was pulling more wood for the fire I saw this block with the wild swirls in it and just could not burn it. It came home and became two egg cups..

They are finished with clear gloss lacquer…............cheers, Jim

As always, after seeing these wonderful turning projects of yours Jim, I get a hankering to go down and use my lathe. Thankfully I usually regain my senses somewhere between the top of the stairs and the shop… Lol Nice work as always sir

Good for you Jim…..you looked at the Firewood like a True Wood Man!!!!

The three egg cups all look beautiful. The osage orange in the middle is special as the colour and grain really stand out. But I think the other two that you think might be beech are EXTRA SPECIAL. not just because they also have very beautiful colour and grain…...but because they were rescued from the fire and were given the chance to be recycled into a lovely work of art that people will enjoy…...and of course we can't forget the skill that you have to be able to achieve this.
Well done Jim.

Regards,

Cliff.

Great turning on the egg cups Jin, will make a great present. Like the idea of the yolk catcher. That must be one hell on a wood pile you have.

Thank you all for the nice comments on these little cups.
Hi Bob, my wood pile is a collection of logs gathered from everywhere because the wood might be pretty and get used in the shop some day. when it starts to crack a lot in the barn , I throw it in the pile behind the barn. When I get a good looking log, I also gather lots of branches and throw them on the pile just in case I need some small stuff. I can't get any more in the barn. But I never say no to free wood either !! When I get back in a few weeks, I'll have a lot of box elder to pick up. I got one log yesterday with a tinge of red on the end and when I cut it open, it was beautiful dark brown and red all through the center!! So much wood and so little time!!

Hi Rance, the yoke catcher is for when you dip your toast into the soft boiled egg and the yellow yoke runs over. It catches it before it runs on the table !

Cheers, Jim

heeheehee so glad you could not, Jim! Beautiful grain. I bet Carol just rolls her eyes, or does she no longer take note? Thanks for sharing.

Hi Candy. that is why I have so much wood..it is too pretty to burn.
I could make thousands of egg cups with all the pretty wood I have been saving!!
