Last year I made a couple of door stops for the school library. The plan has been since that I make some for the kids teachers and one for their classrooms. I have been informed by my wife that the principal has been maybe dropping hints. Since I use these as practice pieces to play with lathe tools it's kind of fun. I don't get out into the shop nearly enough.
The smaller ones are from 6/4 hard maple. The problem with these is they don't work for doors on houses with some thresholds that put the bottom of the door higher and make up the difference with weather stripping. Should work for the schools doors since they are barely above the concrete. So, two for each of the kids classrooms and two extra, probably for the office since they are propping the doors open with a chair.
The larger ones are 8/4 hard maple. They work on the doors in my house so they should be fine for the kids teachers and a few neighbors.
The wedges on both sizes vary between 5 to 5-1/2" and the handles are ~2" each. Most were turned from a 9" piece of stock. The finish is three coats of boiled linseed oil. They are going to get beaten up so only sanded to 150.
The wand was because my new neighbors were wandering by on their walk and their daughters eyes got big when she saw my daughters wand and I figured, what's one more practice piece. Also, my daughter volunteered me, again. Hard maple finished with mineral oil and wax.
