Project Information

Handle made from Scotish Bog oak, front bolster Brass, and Blade is Damascus. Finished with Tung Oil and buffed with Carnuba wax.

This is the very first knife I was able tobe proud of. I gave this to my friend, who is the current Regimental Sargeant Major of my old regiment. He is a traditional, yet very cutting edge (no pun intened) kind of guy. So I designed the knife with that in mind. I took the traditional Scottish Sgian Dubh, and intigrated it with a much more modern design for the handle and blade.

Nice looking Knife. Made for killing no doubt. Back here we call that a shiv. A Sargent in her Majesties Service would no doubt know how to use it to it's maximum effectiveness.

Very nice knife and handle. How did you make the brass bolster? Is it a band strap or is it like a ferrule normally found in chisel?
Would be interesting if you blog the process of making it.
Thanks for sharing

Brass bolster was cut from brass bar. I rough shaped it using a file, drill small holes in centre, and filed to fit knife's hiddent tang. Then slid into wood, for the handle, and epoxy all and clamped. Then started shaping using sander, so that the brass followed shape of wood.

Buffed and cleaned.

I will be making another shortly, and I will blog the whole process.

cheers
