Project Information

This is from a plan that I got from PlansNow. I have a small shop so I needed a way to store the planer that I just bought. The planer weighs 92 lbs. and is just barely "portable". This mobile planing station has wheels so that I can move it around and stow the entire thing by leaning it against a wall, out of the way! It has the added benefit of an out-feed table, as well, which makes for more precise planing! Now I can buy "rough lumber" and mill it for my projects! Who-Ha!!!!

That looks like an interesting way to address both storage and mobility for the planer.

Good idea.

Looks good-and too your shop.

Though, let me understand, the planer and platform have to be lifted off and on to the horses?

Yes, the planer station must be lifted on and off of the saw horses; although, one end at a time. To put it on the saw horses, wheel it near a horse and set that end down onto the horse, then lift the "heavy end" onto the other horse. Just reverse the steps to store the assembly. Obviously, it would be nice not to have to lift the planer; however, I am not smart enough to figure out how to eliminate that unfortunate step!

Great idea and good execution. I have the same planer and it is heavy, but I love it.

I am the in-feed table; but, I have given some thought to incorporating one. Any suggestions?

Hahahahaa….me too !
I've been thinking about making some adjustable height "horses" with the "ball bearings" mounted on top so that I could use them on all of my machinery as needed. None of my machines are at the same height and I could have used one the other day at my drill press to support some long pieces . I made a temporary "crutch" for support that day.

Hey Bullgoose,
Nice mobile planner idea but little worried about OH&S….....suggest building a frame with strong castors to support the entire unit with a fold up in-feed table if required…..jmho.

I think that you would be surprised at how very stable the station actually is! Now, the in-feed table idea is worthy of consideration! My thanks!

Great plan. I have been meaning to build a planer station myself and this looks like a great one. I'm just tired of sniping my lumber. Just one of many projects on the list. I'll be a 100 yrs old before I get to it all….......

nice planer station bullgoose. I also see in the background you own the same rigid joiner that i have. Any trouble with it other than the dust port clogging? I love mine. I also have a 12" rigid planer wich came with very decent infeed and outfeed supports.

Love it and the only problem that I have had with it is the dust port clogging. I believe that it clogs due to the bolts sticking up through the chute, thus "hanging up" the material. I have been meaning to reverse the bolts, but have yet to get to it.
