Project Information

So…I needed a mobile base for my new planer but had a height restriction (due to it's storage
spot). I also wanted to keep it cheap. I found a 1000 lb movers dolly with nice casters for
about $15. Had some leftover 3/4 plywood and spent about $6 on 2×4's. Function is perfect for my
needs, and as I bolted the planer down, I can pull in around by its own built in handles.
Filled in thickness on the two long stretchers with cut and planed 2×4 pieces. The base is then a
double stack of simple 2×4 frames. I did not use 2×6 or 2×8 because in the future, I may
want to add posts between the 2×4 frames to increase working height - so that is an easy fix from where it is now.
At present, it needs to fit under the drill press as my garage is getting increasingly tight on space!

just bought that same planer! It is awesome! I too just built a cart for it. I'll be posting it tomorrow! Great job.

dakremer: I agree - the planer is really good so far. Just got it a couple weeks ago so only used it a couple times…with great results.

I like the cart and storing it in the dead space under the drill press is a great idea, but, how do you keep it from skating around the shop while in use? Or is the cart just for storage?

A10GAC: I did consider the fact that the casters are non-locking…however, I did run some boards through while on the stand and no appreciable movement. I guess I can always lay a couple boards down next to the wheels if that does become an issue (or just get a couple of locking casters to swap for the ones on already).
