Project Information

This is a miter saw stand that I built in the fall. It features Kreg tracks and stops. The wings and the shelf holding up the saw are all torsion boxes made from 1/4" MDF with Poplar edges. The main stand is a modified Easy Shop Table. I designed the original shop table loosely based on a project from Wood Magazine (March 2010) and was for an assembly table. I first built the assembly table, then decided to build some more shop tables based on the design. You can see these on my Project Page.
The wings and general design of the table comes from combining features on various tables I have seen.

I have not put together a tutorial on building this (as it is similar to my Easy Shop Table series). If anyone needs dimensions or other info (like additional photos) let me know…

Welcome to the show,This is a great site and that is a great miter saw station You have assembled for Your self ! The versatility and mobility on a station like this is a good choice and I am sure You put this thing to good use when doing large cross cutting ops ! Good stuff and as always ,be safe.

Nice miter saw station. Is the flip stop pretty nice to use? I heard it has some play in it. Travis Larson from the Family Handyman magazine said it had too much play in it for fine finish work. What are your thoughts on that?
Thanks

Very clever design. I'm yet to try my hand at torsion boxes. For this application, that's clearly the way to go (unless you want to deadlift your wings). Awesome.

UPDATE: The flip stop from Kreg seems to work fine…didn't really notice that much play in it myself…The wings and the saw table are torsion boxes (made out of 1/4" MDF for both the top / bottom / and the torsions (grid). They are edged with Poplar. The back edge was made extra tall to act as the fence. Inner wings (closest to the saw) can be changed out if I change saws…

Excellent design and execution! I love the flexiblity you have with this and how stable it is. The torsion box idea is a good one. I too made a mobile miter saw station with folding wings, but not as sophisticated as yours. I will be adding the Kreg or some version of the Kreg t-track and measuring system with flip stop. Tried to make my own flip stop on a crosscut sled but found it has too much play. Guess I'll have to spring for the Kreg.
