milling a tulip tree

Looks like a good bunch of wood. whats tulip look like when finished?

I've seen a decorative boxes at the craft & souvenir shop, its more like rosewood.

Nice stack of lumber. Love the grain and color. I wikied tulip tree and found a picture of the leaves. Sometimes that's the easiest way to identify a tree. Did you happen to get any leaves?

That is not the "tulip wood" that some people are thinking.
It's yellow poplar, and around hear is basically a weed.
The true tulipwood (dalbergia decipularis) is extremely beautiful wood, and quite rare and expensive.

right this aint the exotic tulip obviously! i didnt think anyone was thinking that

this "common name" stuff gets so confusing.
i think the confusion with the lady (and me!) is that" yellow poplar/american tulip/tulip magnolia" (Liriodendron tulipifera) is not a"poplar" which all start with "populus"in botanical name.so thatd why she said its not poplar to me probably,i guess unaware of the common name yellow poplar for her tree.
, and american tulip is not the common "tulipwood", dalbergia decipularis from Brazi/south America , which has stripes of pink/red,and white.
i have some of that too,purchased for making flutes…yep it's gorgeous,tough on router bits,and pricey
smells nice when cut too! kinda floral.

in any case, this still looked great to my eyes. paulonia empress trees are 'weeds' too in many areas but great to work with nonetheless,and gorgeous flowers(and is literally the fastest growing tree in the world) theyre revered in japan.

Great looking wood you have there - well done on milling it and not letting it go to waste !
