Mesquite Rocking Chair-New Design "The Shangrila Rocker"

Our new rocker design turned out fabulous. This has been a long time coming and we're so glad it is finally done. This rocker is all about curves. The back leg is all bentwood and has a nice shapely appeal to it. The front legs were made out of solid wood, cut and then shaped to give the curve form. Of course the seat is still carved, but is different in the back where it shapes into the lumbar support. The arms sweep down from the back leg, curve out and then sweep back into the front leg where they are shaped into the legs. Originally the back lumbar support was made from bentwood, but they didn't turn out right, so thick material was used to get the bend for the lumbar area. The pieces were flaired out to meet the sides of the back legs and into the headrest. These by far are the most comfortable lumbar supports, fitting into the lower back perfect. Between those and the arms, this rocker is the most comfortable to date. The headrest proved to be a challenge, since it was made from several pieces glued together, so the grain ran the same way as the rest of the rocker. They didn't want to stay glued up, due to the angles. But it finally worked and the headrest came out great. The back support molds into the bottom of the headrest, giving a kind of butterfly effect. I made the first one of these out of mesquite, so that it could make its debu at the San Angelo Mesquite festival this weekend. It has been a huge hit. We're limiting this style to 10 total. So as to not have to many out there and therefore make them more valuable and unique. Decided to name it " The Shangrila Rocker" since it is our first true rocker design with all our own design elements. We're so glad we took the time out to create this new piece. Our photographer was blown away by it and has been passing pictures along to everyone. It's very satisfying to finally create a new rocking chair design.
