Project Information

Back in 2005 we purchased a home outside of Cuenca, Ecuador. We had very little furniture and really weren't ready to buy any. So, with only a handsaw and a screwdriver I built us a rustic table to set on the front porch so we could enjoy the sunsets and tea, coffee …etc. at the same time. I bought a small wood rasp (lima in Spanish) and some sandpaper which helped spruce it up a little. I had a wood burning set with me so I burned Mayan Glyphs in the top even though the Ecuador indigenous were Inca.

I have no idea what kind of wood it is. They were just old boards that were on the property and you use what is available. I do know that it is very heavy and very hard wood. It's a simple design but has given us much enjoyment. Everyone who comes by asks about the designs. Definitely a "One of a Kind" and destined to be a family heirloom.

Definitly a piece to be treasured. Objects that have an emotional involvement are so much more precious.

Your joints need a little work, your lines could be straighter, and some stain wouldn't hurt. lol Just kidding. I love this piece and the story behind it. It really seems like it would look more natural there. Thanks for sharing!

What a cool little table! I love rustic- and this table is a creative use of old boards. I just showed this to my hippy chick oldest daughter and you got oohhhhhhhhhh and ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh for the Mayan glyphs burned into the top. Guess what just got added to my "honey do" list?
