Project Information
Another new and I think improved design on my men's valet boxes, (Bandsaw box on the inside, normal joinery on the outside) I was going for a more modern look from my previous boxes them having the rustic appearance, wood used for this project is Cypress, Wenge and Alder for the core, I like to use alder for my core as it's inexpensive and easy to work, once again I optioned drawer front slabs taking the place of bandsaw cut drawer fronts which gives the box a much cleaner look, this box features lots of parts and can almost be confusing for a new owner, it'd most certainly need instructions to go with it, the body of the box is cypress with the drawer pulls, keys, trim and the top lift out tray being wenge, instead of butt joints this box incorporates mitered keyed joints, also another first in drawer fronts being mitered as well, I added the top trim for that added touch and a lift out tray on top. This box offers three nice sized drawers a small lift out tray along with two more large trays a hidden drawer, one of the trays being a hidden tray and a hidden compartment.
To access the hidden drawer once you pull out the bottom left drawer and turn it around it reveals the hidden drawer, to access the hidden compartment and tray, you lift out the top tray then using the small lift out tray from the top drawer it acts as the key to opening the false bottom door revealing the hidden tray, by lifting out that tray it in return reveals the hidden compartment.
This box is finished in a single coat of tung oil, a single coat of shellac, two coats of wipe on poly satin finish and a final coat of paste wax, I added felt to the top left side of the tray along with felt on the bottom of the box for protection of furniture, measurements are 11 1/2" L x 8" H x 7 1/2" D
Due to all the parts involved I wasn't able to get all photos above so I added the rest below along with some pic of items placed inside of the box.
This picture below showing the hidden lift out tray once the false bottom door has been removed.
This pic shows the hidden compartment
