Project Information

Here is one of my first attempts at simple furniture making. This media center is made of 3/4" baltic birch plywood, with iron-on edge banding. The shelves are adjustable using standard shelf pins. I used some scrap from old closet organizer as a guide for the shelf pin holes, which seemed to work reasonably well. The drawer slides are still giving me a little trouble (my first attempt at using them). I think I need to sand/route a few thousands of an inch off the left side to allow the drawer to fully close properly.

Good looking media center. You did a good job on the stain. Birch plywood can be hard to stain in my experience. I like the drawer pull too. Did you make that also. Great job

Thanks, Moosesman! I used wood conditioner first, then two coats of oil-based stain, and then three coats of polyurethane with light sanding in between. I don't get good results with brushing, so everything was wiped on with rags. Took a long time to dry in the winter in my garage, but I was happy with the result.

The drawer pull is just galvanized pipe from the plumbing department. My daughter wanted an industrial look.
