Showcase cover image for Matching end tables

Project Information

I made a pair of these. The wood used is clear pine. The drawer is 1/2" poplar and the drawer bottom oak plywood. The top is a glue up of two 1×12's. I match jointed them with a #7. I finished the top with a smooth plane and chamfered it lightly with a block plane. Legs and supports are 6/4 stock that I planed with a #4. Aprons were all cut on the table saw and beaded with a router. The drawers aren't dovetailed, but nailed with cut nails and glued. The drawer runners and kickers are scrap poplar that I waxed along with the drawer sides. I stopped chamfered the outer corner of each leg. A couple I did with a chisel and spokeshave just to try it, the rest I did with a router. Joinery is pocket screws and MnT. Finish is two coats of mahogany gel stain and three coats of wipe on gloss poly. Total build time for both tables was approx 30 hours.
I built the tables as end tables and also to match a hall table that I completed a few months back. Table 2 is just about finished, just needs the second and third coat of poly.
