Project Information

I know they've been done hundreds of times but here's my take on the mason jar light. The beam is made of pine 1X6's. I put the beam together with pocket screws and then went to town with the chisels, hammer, nails, scratch awl, and an old hand plane. The finish on it is red oak stain and walnut danish oil. The lamp cord i got from www.colorcord.com. Thy have a variety of lamp cords that come wrapped in different colors of nylon. It kind of looks like the old knob and tube wiring. I finished it off with an old pulley I found at a local antique store.

I love it. Unfortunately, I think I'd come home to find the cats perched atop it…

That's beautiful! The only thing I would have done differently would be to make the end caps with end grain pine, little slices of wood glued and stacked so that it looked more like a solid beam. But I truly love it and I am going to talk the wife into letting me build one for our den (man cave)

Really like it. Might steal the idea if I can figure out a place to put it.

I was just in Joanne Fabrics (don't ask why) and saw they had dyed Mason Jars for sale and wondered what use they could be and now I know!

Cool looking light fixture!
