Project Information

No, it's not what you are thinking :)) My Wife asked me if I could make her something to hold some Cotton Cooking String (I didn't know it existed). I now know that Cooking String is used to secure things that are being cooked - can't have the Chicken trying to run out of the oven. Below is what I came up with, it's Maple and is 5" tall and 1 7/8" wide. I drilled a 9/64" hole for the string to pass through. Wife is happy - so you know I'm happy.

Very nice! I like your design and the bead looks good.
If you have friends come over for dinner thy might try to use it for salt or pepper by pulling the string. LOL
lots better than chasing it rolling around the kitchen!!!

Turned out very nice. Good shape for a cooking string holder (I guess) Never heard of them before either. Everybody is happy.

it turned out really nice, ive got one myself, except its stainless steel, ive had to replace the glass in my oven several times, i heard a crashing noise and sure enough that dang chicken was running for the front door…so now the string has cleared that all up..now i just have to listen to him make all the noise…lol

In the old butcher shops the string came out of the middle of the spool, went up to a hook/eye on the ceiling and then over to the cutting/tying area and then came down from a second eye. That way the loose end was right at eye height, ready to be caught and tied for the next roast.

Great job on the mini spool for home use.

(Got to keep them happy!)

Nice turning and kitchen tool. Maybe a piece of something mounted on the underside to cut the string with could be a nice addition.
