Project Information

The first four. Stumbling around the internet, I ran across bone carvings of the Maori people in New Zealand. They have some beautiful designs that inspired me to try my hand. Mine are carved in Indian Rosewood and Maple with some ribbon figure to it. Totally freehand carved. No patterns or templates are used to make these. Requiring a lot of hand work, they really get me right brained.

The fishhooks are symbols of luck and prosperity, the twist represents eternal friendship and the initials are a natural result of my experimentation and my experience carving my name keychains.

They are sanded 100 - 600 grit, lacquered and waxed.

Thanks for looking.

Beautifully done. I've always admired how they made a functional fishhook into a form of art.

Beautiful shapes and textures. I really love those rosewood pieces, with the fishook standing out as a favorite.
Excellent job, Scott. Are they on etsy?

Very nicely done. The rosewood grain is fantastic, though the texture of the maple is pretty slick as well. I always enjoy seeing your work.

Those are way cool, m'man. Very nice indeed.

I'm planning a trip to New Zealand late next year for our 30th Anniversary. We're going to hike the Milford and Routeburn Tracks with a stop in Fiji on the way back. Can't wait.

always,
J.C.

Thank you all for your words of encouragement. I really enjoy making them. Rosewood is wonderful to work with and rewarding to finish.

Doug- Yes, I do have them on Etsy http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5602068

J.C. - Lucky Kiwi. Sounds fantastic.

Nice, nice, nice, nice, nice, nice, nice!!! Did I say nice? You'd make a killing selling them in Lahaina or Waikiki.
