Project Information

This is was one of my first attempts at wood sculpture. I made this a few years ago and ecently found the photo. I cut this piece from a dead plant while on a hike. I like the form of it. It took me nearly a month to sand the damn thing and now that i look at the photo i wish i could refinish it. Just curious to see what people think.

I think it's beautiful. I just want to run my hands over it and I want to stare at it and find all the symbolism in it. It also makes me want to go for a walk and find a dead something or other so I can start sanding it!

I wish I had the patience to attempt something like that. The form is wonderful. It DOES look like something that just NEEDS to be picked up.

Hello Adam,
--well this is quite an object of lesson, in the study of diligence, to become 'wood art'!!!

I like this piece and see that you also are tagging with 'free form' sculpture….
What is the finish you have used….or is this the natural sheen of the oils in the wood?
....also, to what number of grit did you work this piece too?

Now also I noticed on your profile page, a statement you have made which I find fascinating; "I want to merge the world of physical craft with the world of philosophy." So how about doing a blog story and telling us more?

Once again thanks for your sharing….
GODSPEED,
Frank

I agree - makes you want to pick it up and touch! It is a wonderful free form piece. The manzinita reminds me of my time in California!

Debbie I hope the dead something or other is not a dead animal.

Sometimes you can walk a beach or river bank and find driftwood pieces that have a great form to them, because they've been tumbled along with other trash and rocks in the rivers.

Great sculpure.

wonderful piece, reminds me of a piece of sculpture I did in college back in 1968 except mine was made with chicken wire paper mache' and covered with brown shoe polish to look like wood. I got a c+ on it so it was'nt that great. jockmike
