Project Information

I don't know about you but having a fence on my band saw is one of those must have accessories. I recently got a Porter Cable 14 inch band saw and to be honest I love the saw but was very frustrated that it did not come with a fence from the factory. Yes there are options like the Kreg fence system witch is an awesome system and works great but I wanted to challenge myself to see if I could make a fence that would cost way less and would be plenty accurate. As in most cases you are not using the band saw to make finishing cuts anyways. This is what I came up with. I used a guide clamp from harbor freight and some 1/2 inch plywood as well as some 1 inch square tubing. This all worked great and the best part is that is is very accurate and only cost around $45 dollars you might even be able to build one cheaper if you already have any of the materials or parts. Also the process can be adapted very easily to be used with really any band saw that has mounting points for a fence system.I am super happy with how the fence came out and I have been using it almost nonstop now that i have it on the band saw. I even plan on making some accessories like a taller attachable side wall and maybe some jigs or hold downs. What do you think would be a useful attachment?

Go check out the article and video on my website at the link below there is way to much to be able to be detailed enough here : https://jpaynewoodworking.com/2019/03/13/how-to-make-a-bandsaw-fence-for-under-50/
