Showcase cover image for Make Three Wishes.

Project Information

This is my Genie bottle that nature had more to do with making than I did. I was cleaning out some pines around my shop and came across this design (not sure what it is called) and I knew I had to see what I could make out of it.
Picture number 5 is what I started with and the remaining four pictures are different views. The stopper I added and sealed it because I didn't want three wishes. No telling what kind of problem I would get in if I were to get any one wish. The stopper is cherry

This is not hollow turned, since I don't have any hollow turning tools, YET. I really like to keep this as a center piece just to look at.

Not sure I want to sell this. Have to wait until the little lady comes home and see what she thinks.

1) I wish it would stop raining!
2) I wish i had all my work projects done so i can start on the fun ones
3) I wish I could make a Genie bottle like that one!!.........
......there I did it!!

ps. What I have done to "cheat" on something like that is to hollow it out from the bottom and then glue the base back on!!

Great use of a natural burl form. Without the last pic, it looks like bottom and neck are 2 different pieces.

Mother nature helped you bring out the beauty in this piece.

Keep it up.

Thanks for the comments. Don't be surprised if those dreams come true for Jim. I can be riding down a road and see a piece of wood and wonder what could I make with that. Does that make me crazy. Now the idea of someone burning fire wood upsets me when I know its nice wood that could be a bowl, jewelry box and a host of other things.

Nice use of a piece of "scrap" timber most people would throw on the fire. Fellow after my own heart I cant throw pieces away because I may be able to make something from them later on, I have a box full of "scrap" and occasionally one turns up (sorry for the pun) complete with an idea and you make something from it. My last project the Cherry Bowl being a prime example, stood around for almost 10 years before it was used, NO WOOD IS EVER SCRAP. Nice piece Tom.

It's seems this genie bottle goes up for sale. Little lady game home yesterday and I had the bottle sitting on a small table in the kitchen and she said. "What is this"?
She doesn't appreciate or see wood the way i do. To me something like this is priceless. What God creates is the real work of art and we wood workers or turners just get the pleasure to make use of what He created.
I was thinking yesterday about LJ members and just how blessed we are to be able to create such beautiful and useful works or art. We all should be proud and blessed to be able to make things that are made here on this site.
Want to thank all of you for sharing.
You realize things that are made here may become part of history in time to come.
Be proud, stand tall and count your blessings.
