Showcase cover image for Mahogany Outdoor Bench

Project Information

Just finshed this bench today. It was a fun weekend project. Very simple construction, mortise and tenon and butt joints. The hardest part was laying out the curves for the cross stretchers. I used Titebond III, screws, and some brads. I hope this lasts a long time, it should in theory. The finish is Watco teak oil. All the screw holes were plugged, which may have been the most time consuming part of the entire project. As always I look forward to all your feedback, and welcome all questions, comments and solutions. Thanks.

MJ, Great idea and execution. I just had my backyard re-done last year and my wife is pressing me to buy some furniture. The bench looks great, and I can just about see a table to go with it in my minds eye.

I love it. Are you able to purchase mahogany stock in your area? And what does it go for, if you don't mind me asking?

This bench is fantastic. Love the design and the wood. Great work!

Charlie, I live not more than an hour north of mjlauro and the prices around me are what I would consider very expensive. FYI, I am a true rookie with woodworking, so I went & quoted a hardwood supplier down the block from me for 1×6 S2S Mahogany @$8.75/linear foot…(I actually thought she meant board foot) I said ok and nearly collapsed in the parking lot when I realized what she had quoted me! So I'm very interested in hearing the answer to your question. Maybe I will have to take the trip down there if the price is right.

P.S. Little did I know how expensive my woodworking addiction would be!!! :)
