Project Information

I made this bedside table for my wife as my first inside furniture project. My only other project has been my workbench. I'm in the process of making the matching side table. The table is solid mahogany with crotch mahogany sides and is held together with mortise and tenon joinery. I designed the table myself by taking ideas from several other projects I had seen online. Please let me know what you think.

The project was a challenge because I didn't have a table saw at the time. The table was made entirely using a sliding miter saw, router, sander, chisels, and hand planes.

Wood: Honduran Mahogany (frame, top, drawer front), Crotch Mahogany (sides), Cherry (drawer sides)

Finish: TransTint Brown Mahogany and Red Mahogany mix, Seal-A-Cell, Arm-R-Seal Gloss, Arm-R-Seal Satin as the final coat

Joinery: Mortise and Tenon, Figure 8's (top), Dovetails (drawer)

Great job! Especially with limited tools available.

Looks great, should be very functional. The best projects are the ones the wife (and kids) want, get less grief working in the shop.
