Project Information

To wake up in such a bed would be a dream even for royalty, though in this case the carver created it out of the love for his child. This original design by Boris is completely hand carved and turned out of mahogany measuring The design at the foot represents the evening star guarding over his child at night, while at the head the rising sun lifts the child's intertwined initial YBK up to meet the crown atop the intricate baroque style design, obviously making this child the king of the family. The bed is completely functional as well with adjustable side rails and a base that can be raised or lowered as the child grows. This beautiful piece of furniture took over 180 hours to complete. The mahogany was stained and covered with clear lacquer.

AAhh yeah. This is one of those days I should never have come to the 'Projects' page. I see absolutely stunning creations like this and I just want to go unplug my tools, turn off the lights in my shop and take up origami or flower arranging.

That is really beautifully done.

Tokolosi, when you're done shutting down, maybe come over to my shop and we'll fold paper cranes, huh?

Boris, that's simply magnificent. Well done, sir.

Amazing work! The detail and thought and love that has gone in to making this jumps out at the viewer even in photographs,it must be astounding in person!

I may be way off base but a kid who is the 'king of the family' is destined to be an unhappy child as those are huge shoes to fill. I understand that as a parent, and perhaps its fathers in particular, the children become central to our existance and we'd move heaven and earth for them but they're kids and should be allowed to be kids as long as the world will let them. I don't mean to offend and I certainly don't know you or your family, and even if I did I'd have no business telling you how to raise your kids…in fact I don't really have an excuse for writing all this (except the first paragraph,as it truly is astounding!)

Thank you all for looking and for comments.
Question regarding using power tools or not for the carving on Headboard -answer is NO.
I'm never used any power tools (I just do not have it) for the carvings. Only Chisels ,Gouges and Mallet .
But I'm using power machinery for building furniture … and prepare blocks for carving.

Holy @#$%! Eat your heart out Norm Abrams. lol This is amazing but I suddenly feel very inferior. This makes the crib I made for my children look pretty ridiculous. :)
