SawDust: no, the maple lid is flat; it's just the wild grain that makes it look like it's been carved. The illusion exists in real life and people will run their fingers over it and be surprised to find it flat!
JayJay, Blockhead and Joe,
The corner posts are attached to the sides and back with my Festool Domino using the new, tiny, 4mm tenons. I glue up the legs while they are still square to give me a good clamping surface, then shape the curves with my Festool RO150 and 40 grit paper….takes about 5 minutes with the orbit set to the more aggressive pattern. Change paper and smooth out the shape. It matches the legs of a guitar stand I made for the same woman using koa. Unfortunately the two pieces ended up in different rooms.
