Project Information

Here are some picture frames I made for these vintage musical instrument posters. The mahogany was salvaged from packing crates. The birdseye maple was scraps thrown away by a cabinet shop. This is the first time I've made splined miters and I think they turned out pretty well. This project was the impetus for making a simple splining jig, a feather board, and a miter sled, none of which I've used before. I found that in addition to making great miters, the sled also works well as a miter gluing jig as shown in the last picture.

Nice looking frames there Bob! Thinking about my first go at frames soon. Want to make a gift for the surgical residents I work with who will be graduating in June! Just gotta settle on an idea! Really digging the mitered splines, neat little jig too.

Bob, taking the time to make the right jigs sure makes a difference in the end result, your frames are proof of that.

Beautiful frames Bob and some very interesting posters. I've not seen posters like that before and I played guitar and banjo for many, many years. Nice job.

Andy - the posters were supplements to Pickin' magazine back in the 70's, and they are now quite collectible. I salvaged them from my Dad's shop. I understand they have recently started making a reprint of the one with pegheads.
