Project Information

I really like how this board design is so opticaly striking. From one corner looking across the board it appears to look like keyboard keys and from the reverse direction it looks like fenced in squares. No, this is not my design. I am meerly following the design of Andre from MTM. Not that this makes it a lot easier to make, they were quite challenging. I am so envious of those among us that can visualize in their head how to cut strips of different species of wood, glue them together, slice them up yet again and reglue them a second or even a third time to create stunning designs. These boards are end grain and made from Walnut, White Oak and Maple. I recently convinced my wife that I needed a better bandsaw that would take a larger blade with carbide teeth to save on wasting wood. This is my first project using my new Laguna 14BX with a 3/4" Resaw King blade. Wow, what a difference that made. A 1 MM thick blade as compared to the 1/8 th inch on my table saw plus it cut through the cleanly and smoothly. High praise for this saw.

Really, really cool.
I can imagine the work it took to get this all aligned correctly.
Well done.

Thanks ohwoodeye, yes I learn something new with every project. On this one I learned to use my drum sander instead of the planer with thin strips. Some of the maple strips in these boards are only 4 mm thick and the planer tended to chew them up on the ends.

Very cool. Great work. I admire your patience. I want to try one someday but fear I'll be permanently cross eyed before I finish it.

Cool!
Really nice work.
I definitely don't have the patience for that. Regular butcher block is my limit.

Another krack up job by the krazy king of kutting boards. Vertigo, anyone?

I've watched many of Andre's videos and he is a true master. But you deserve some credit here. You've taken his inspired design and really run with it. Fantastic work.

I'd be inclined to hang that on a wall rather than use it as a cutting board.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Just cause it isn't your design doesn't mean it isn't your artwork.
