Project Information

I was walking around the Big Orange Box and had an idea. Why couldn't I use flooring like home siding to give a simple project a very high end look. I needed a new bed frame so here is what I built. I chose solid bamboo flooring for the project. It was already mortise and tenoned so I didn't have to adjust the boards to begin with. I glued and pin nailed three strips of 1/4 round bamboo together to make the corner caps. The total cost of the materials for the project were about $250 - $300. Not bad for something that should last a few generations.

This thing is a tank and extremely heavy as you can imagine. I also built a second one for a queen mattress but changed the design since the long twin was so heavy that it would have been near impossible to get it in the house.

BOM:

(1) Box of Solid Hardwood Bamboo Flooring (they call bamboo hardwood even though it is a grass. Go figure…)
(1) Tube of Locktite 400(?) Flooring adhesive
(8) 2×4 x 10
(4) 1×12 x 10
(3) 1/4 round bamboo trim
3" tan decking screws
1 - 5/8" decking screws
(1) 3/4 inch plywood
Yellow Glue

Tools:

Table saw
Miter saw
Pin nailer
Finish nailer
Router
Screw gun / Impact driver

Sorry guys, I don't have plans since I did this off the top of my head.

Sweet! Great imaginative use of otherwise used material.
